Diane Sawyer is a well-known face among ABC News’ Good Morning America viewers. Diane began her career as a member of President Richard Nixon’s White House staff, and went on to become a renowned television journalist, co-hosting Good Morning America for nearly a decade (1999-2009).
Diane was leading a happy life with a healthy work-life balance until tragedy struck, shaking the foundations of her contentment.
But what had happened to this 72-year-old journalist to cause such tragedy? To learn more, keep reading this article!
Diane Sawyer’s Tragic Life And Death
Diane was rehabilitating from the death of her mother, Jean W. Sawyer, who died in October 2014 at the age of 94, when she was struck with yet another setback. Her 26-year marriage to actor and Oscar-winning filmmaker Mike Nichols came to an end, but it was not due to the couple’s deliberate separation.
Every mortal creature has to face death at some point in their lives. Mike died of a sudden heart attack on November 19th, just a month after Jean’s death. He was 83 years old at the time. Mike’s funeral took place at a Frank Campbell residence.
Diane and Mike met for the first time at a Paris airport when they were both returning to the United States. Diane was 40 years old at the time, and Mike was 54. Diane was reportedly hiding in the airport lounge since she hadn’t done her hair when Mike appeared in front of her and told her that she was his hero.
Diane, on the other hand, complemented him and even invited him out to lunch, stating Mike was her idol. Mike had previously revealed that Diane had requested a 60-minute interview with him, which he agreed to, resulting in the couple having 14 lunches together.
Mike was Diane’s first husband, despite the fact that Diane was not his first wife. Mike previously married Patricia Scott, Margo Callas, and Annabel Davis-Goff three times. They didn’t last long, though, and all of them ended in divorce.
Diane had two previous relationships, Congressman Bill Bradley and actor Warren Beatty, however she hadn’t married before Mike. Despite the fact that Diane and Mike had no children together, Mike had three children from previous marriages whom Diane cherished, particularly her step-son Max, with whom she was seen walking to Mike’s funeral holding hands.
Diane was eventually seen out in public with her ex-boyfriend Bill Bradley in 2016, after spending some time in seclusion. The two enjoyed a romantic supper at Molos in Weehawken, New Jersey, and appeared to be at ease in each other’s company. However, no further information about their situation has been released as of yet. As a result, it won’t be difficult to dismiss their meeting as a regular get-together between two good friends.
