For his adored first restaurant, Canadian renowned chef Mark McEwan and his then-girlfriend placed one of their biggest life aspirations on hold. His supportive wife agreed to put her desire to support his dippy notion on wait as well.

After his restaurant business thrived, Mark, the chief judge on Canadian television series Top Chef Canada, was able to create a balance between his family and professional life. He has his own show, The Heat with Mark McEwan, on Food Network Canada, in addition to Top Chef Canada. Mark also debuted his own show, Chef To Chef With Mark McEwan, in July 2018.

Dishwashing was his first job

Mark was born in 1957 in Buffalo, New York, the state’s second biggest city. He went to Canada after spending his childhood in New York and graduated from George Brown College in 1979. Mark began his career as a dishwasher in a local Buffalo restaurant before moving on to the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto as an executive sous chef in 1981.

Pronto and North 44, which he founded in Toronto in 1990, were his first eateries. He has opened many eateries in Toronto following his early success.

Mark McEwan made his fortune in the restaurant business

With a $6 million investment, he opened McEwan to expensive gourmet dining in early 2009. Bymark Restaurant, ONE – The Hazelton Hotel, McEwan Foods, and FABBRICA Restaurant are among his establishments.

When Mark’s wife, Roxanne McEwan, became pregnant with their baby, they chose to marry, but their wedding plans had to be put on hold.

Mark canceled his wedding preparations after learning about an opportunity to build a restaurant that he couldn’t pass up. Mark’s wife was supportive, and his love for his wife grew stronger. After opening the restaurant, Mark and Roxanne headed to City Hall to get their marriage license so they could properly organize their forthcoming wedding.

To buy the restaurant, the inexperienced chef sold his sports vehicle and cashed his tax refund, but he also had to ask his parents for a second mortgage on their home.

Since the beginning of their prosperity, Eric, their kid, has been a wonderful omen in their lives. He and his parents went to City Hall for their marriage license when he was a newborn infant. He now manages a family business as an adult, following in his father’s footsteps.

Eric is the general manager of McEwan Foods TD, a gourmet food company owned by the McEwans. His parents, who run four restaurants, married shortly after his birth and were married in a modest church on Weston Road on May 18, 1986.

They invited roughly 80 people back to Pronto to celebrate the big day, including their closest friends and relatives.
