Joshua Bell, a Grammy-winning singer and violinist, has always had a passion for music.

Shirley Bell, his mother, noticed his natural gift when she spotted him plucking music from stretched rubber bands over the handles of his dresser drawer when he was just four years old. Following that incident, his parents purchased a scaled-to-size violin for him and began giving him lessons.

Donna Bricht, his first violin teacher, was then introduced to the Bloomington, Indiana native. Bricht was the widow of Walter Bricht, an Indiana University music professor. Mimi Zweig and Josef Gingold also taught Bell how to play the violin.

Bell’s talent as a violinist grew over time, and when he was 14, he performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, impressing many.

Bell continued to hone his musical and instrument-making skills while studying the violin at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In 1989, he graduated from Indiana University with an Artist Diploma in Violin Performance.

The 53-year-old violinist joined the American Russian Young Artists Orchestra after obtaining his diploma and traveled on his first trip to Russia. Following that, he toured the world with some of the world’s most renowned orchestras and conductors.

In addition, for his extraordinary performances as a classical instrumentalist, he received the coveted Avery Fisher Prize. In May 2007, he became a senior lecturer at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, and in May 2011, he became the Music Director at the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

Bell made an equally major impact to the entertainment business. In 2009, he played violin solos in the film Angels & Demons, and in 2013, he accompanied Scarlett Johansson in the song “Before My Time.”

His inspirational profession has earned him handsome wages and helped him acquire a sizable net worth throughout the years. Bell has a net worth of $15 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Aside from that, he possesses a rare violin worth more than $10 million. In 2001, the violinist purchased it for about $4 million. He lives in a 4,000-square-foot mansion in New York that was designed by architect Charles Rose. In terms of his personal life, the seasoned violinist is a happily married man. On October 5, 2019, he married opera singer Larisa Martinez at their Mount Kisco, New York, home.

Lisa Matricardi was Bell’s prior girlfriend. Josef, as well as twins Benjamin and Samuel, are their three sons.
