Invincible, a biopic about Vince Papale, was released in 2006. Janet Cantwell-Papale, his wife, was portrayed as a New York Giants supporter in the film. The truth could not be further from the truth. Cantwell isn’t a fan of the Giants, and the film’s creators adjusted her character and a few other details.

Janet Cantwell-Film Papale’s Persona

Mark Wahlberg, who played Papale in Ted, and Elizabeth Banks, who played Cantwell in Charlie’s Angels, starred in Invincible.

Cantwell is a bartender and a Giants fan, according to the tale. She runs across Papale at a pub where he used to work.

Reality Away from the Screen

Cantwell has been married to the Pennsylvania native for nearly 25 years. On August 14, 1993, the couple married. They have two children: Gabriella, a daughter, and Vincent, a son. Vincent holds real estate licenses in both Pennsylvania and Florida. Gabriella is interested in the culinary arts and has an Instagram cooking show.

The mother-of-two is not the same person featured in the biography Invincible, according to Papale’s official website. Cantwell has stated that he “never was” and “never will be” a Giants fan. She was also never a bartender.

Cantwell is a businesswoman, a former gymnast, a diver, and a real estate agent in real life. She was a gymnast, then a diver, then a businesswoman, and eventually a real estate agent, if we have to keep track of those things.

Janet Cantwell’s Biography

Cantwell is the oldest of nine children born to her parents. She was up in a family where every member of her family was an athlete. She earned a position on the USA World Gymnastics Team at the age of 16. She competed in the Hapoel Games and the World Games in Yugoslavia.

According to Papale’s official website, she was unable to compete in the Munich Olympics due to an ankle ailment. Her gymnastics career was cut short due to the injury. She, on the other hand, was not the one who gave up. Cantwell began diving while a student at Penn State University. She not only smashed all of Penn State’s women’s diving records, but she also earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

She subsequently went on to teach gymnastics, initially at State College High School and then all across the world. She developed amateur gymnastics programs for Malaysia, South Africa, and Bermuda, among other countries. She returned to the United States and became the University of Pennsylvania’s first gymnastics coach. She worked for the company from 1976 till 1988.

She did post-graduate education at the Wharton School of Business while coaching there and subsequently retired from coaching to pursue a career in real estate.

Why was Cantwell seen in such a different light?

The original aim for the film, according to Papale’s official website, was to represent Janet as she was. Brad Gann, the original screenwriter for the film, had intended to portray her as a world-class gymnast who had recently returned from a trip to South Africa.

The film, however, needed the NFL’s blessing. As a result, the NFL advised the film’s creators to make Janet a Giants fan and include a bartender role in the tale to provide conflict and humor.

The film crew followed the advice and obtained permission from the NFL. A few other “minor” adjustments were also made, according to the page, although they did not influence the tale. The biopic was not intended to be a documentary, but rather an attempt to capture Papale’s path to his ideal team, the Philadelphia Eagles, as claimed.

The film was not well received by many

Despite assertions that the movie’s alterations to the characters and plot had little effect on the story, a few people disagreed, including Papale’s second ex-wife Sandy Bianchini.

Sharon, his first ex-wife, is shown in the film as the one who threw him out of the house. Sandy Bianchini, on the other hand, is not shown at all. Sandy was Papale’s wife from 1977 until 1983, according to a 2007 article in the Los Angeles Daily News. At the time of their meeting, she already had a son.

She was said to be the one who supported him throughout his tryout for the Philadelphia Eagles. She was there both throughout and after his brief professional career.

Sandy wrote emails to media outlets after the film’s premiere in 2006, expressing her dissatisfaction with her absence from the film.
