Ed Orgeron began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State in 1984. He then went on to coach at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He even spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas, working under Ken Hatfield.

He began his career at the University of Miami in 1988, working with former head coach Jimmy and his successor, Dennis Erickson. The match won two consecutive national titles in 1989 and 1991. As a defensive lineman, he employed a young Dwayne Johnson, who is now known as “The Rock.”
