Professional Life and Career

At the age of twenty-three, Chimaev began his MMA training at Allstar Training Center in Stockholm, with Alexander Gustafsson, Ilir Latifi, and Reza Madadi, among others.

Alexander Gustafsson, one of his major training partners, told a Swedish reporter during a press conference in June 2019 that Chimaev was one of the best fighters he had ever trained with.

Following his preparation, he had his first three amateur MMA fights between September 2017 and April 2018. The first was a submission victory over future IMMAF World Champion Khaled Laallam, and he went on to win the next two amateur matches by submission (guillotine choke) and technical knockout, respectively.

He made his professional debut on May 26, 2018, at International Ring Fight Arena 14, defeating Gard Olve Sagen in the second round via technical knockout. After that, he fought Ole Magnor on August 18, 2018, at Fight Club Rush 3, and won by rear-naked choke submission late in the first round.

He later signed with the Middle Eastern organization Brave Fighting Federation (Brave CF) and was slated to make his promotional debut against Benjamin Bennett on November 16th, 2018 at Brave CF 18. He withdrew from the bout, though, and was replaced by Marko Kisic, a 4-0 prospect. He had a quick turnaround for his next fight, replacing injured Leon Aliu at Brave CF 20 on December 22nd, 2018. He faced Sidney Wheeler on short notice.

He won by technical knockout in 35 seconds in the first round. After that, he fought Ikram Aliskerov in his debut fight at welterweight on April 19th, 2019 at Brave CF 23, winning by one-punch knockout in the first round, earning him the Brave Knockout of the Night title.
