Kurt Werner was born on June 22, 1971, in Burlington, Iowa, USA, as Kurt Eugene Warner. When Warner was four years old, his parents, Gene and Sue Warner, divorced. His mother housed him and his older brother, Matt.

Kurt graduated in 1989 from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids, where he excelled in soccer, baseball, and football. He then enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993.

Professional Life

Despite his outstanding senior season, he went undrafted in 1994. He was welcomed to training camp by the Green Bay Packers, but he was released only a month later. He joined the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League a year later. In 1998, he was sent overseas to play in the NFL’s European league after catching the attention of the Rams.

His tenure with the Rams came to an end in 2003 due to an accident. He also agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Giants, who exchanged him for rookie Eli Manning the next spring. In March 2005, he signed a four-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals after a season with the team.

He started his duties alongside former USC standout Matt Leinart. He switched to the Arizona Cardinals after a season with the New York Giants. He finished his playing career in 2010 after four seasons with the Cardinals. Kurt then became an analyst for NFL Network and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
