Tom Bergeron was born on May 6, 1955, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, to now-deceased parents Raymond Bergeron (father) and Catherine Bergeron (mother). He had a sister named Maureen Bergeron and came from a French-Canadian (father) and Irish (mother) family. He has no college diploma because he began working in radio shortly after graduating from Haverhill High School when he was only 17 years old.
He began his career in broadcasting as a disc jockey at local radio station WHAV in his hometown, where he rose to prominence as a prominent radio DJ in the 1980s. Following that, he made his first appearance on television as the host of the local game program Granite State Challenge on NHPTV. Tom later relocated to Boston in 1982 to serve as a general on-air personality for WBZ-TV, where he presented many lottery and lifestyle shows for the network for nearly 15 years.
