Since Depp’s victory in the trial, a fan claims that Disney has been exploring bringing him back for a cameo or supporting part in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Because of the outpouring of public support for Depp during his defamation trial against Amber Heard, the film production studio wants to bring him back.

Karen Gillan is slated to take over as the franchise’s protagonist, according to the report. There has been no confirmation of Depp’s participation in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film as of yet.

On May 15, 2022, film producer Jerry Bruckheimer told The Sunday Times that the pirate movie had two scripts in development, none of which included Depp.

The Captain Jack Sparrow film franchise grossed $4.5 billion worldwide, and Depp’s portrayal of the Captain was a big part of it. However, just days after his ex-wife Heard’s op-ed was published, the actor was officially eliminated from the franchise’s planned relaunch in 2018.

The Aquaman actress discussed her alleged experiences with sexual assault and domestic abuse in the op-ed. Although Heard did not address Depp by name, people assumed it was about him. Unfortunately, the op-ed had a negative impact on his career, and he was asked to leave the Fantastic Beasts franchise as Grindelwald.

Disney executive Sean Bailey told The Hollywood Reporter that they were eager to explore new narratives after Heard’s op-ed essay went up.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million in damages for defamation in 2019, stating that the statements she made in her op-ed were false. He also claimed that he was the victim of domestic abuse rather than the predator.

The trial was then formally launched on April 11, 2022. Depp discussed his future in the film franchise while taking the stand. After being pulled from the franchise, the actor stated that he would never work with the studio again.

Ben Rottenborn, Heard’s attorney, inquired about his return.

Even if Disney reclaims Depp, it appears that he will not return to the franchise.
